Publication dates are important
As soon as you know it, the date is seared into your brain. Mine is 1 July 2024. Except then my book was selected for Amazon First Reads.
What does this mean?
It means that readers who are signed up to Amazon First Reads (AFR) get to read it ONE MONTH early. And even if you aren’t signed up to that, you can get it for a cheery £1, or $1.99 is the US.
Is this good news?
I’m hoping so. Sometimes there’s a worry that early free readers can ‘cannibalise’ your sales – and people who download a book for free aren’t chosing your book in the same way as a ‘normal’ reader. But it does boost your visibility and that’s something that all writers have to work with.
It also gets early reviews which, again, get your book cover popping up on people’s feeds, Kindles, etc.
If you’d like to download my book early go ahead. But equally, wait for the publication day. 1 July.
The actual book launch
My real book launch is on 4 July – yep, that date. I chose it first, Rishi. But I’m seeing my Election Day party as a win. Here’s an invitation – I’d love to see you there. It’s at Heron Books in Bristol at 6.30pm and you can book a ticket here.
Are you a fan of an early read (either via AFR or Netgalley)? Or do you prefer to wait for the real thing?
